Objectives
The symposium announced here will
continue a series of mistletoe symposiums which are held about every three or
four years. The objective of these symposiums has always been and remains to
bring together scientists and doctors and create a forum for discussions – from
different standpoints as well. Only by this means can the use of mistletoe
preparations be developed further, and their potential and limitations be
identified. This explains why this interdisciplinary dialogue, which cuts
across the borders of the various therapy approaches, is so important. The
organisers would like to extend an invitation to this symposium.
They
are calling for scientific papers on the following subjects and/or questions
which are vitally important for mistletoe therapy and its scientific
advancement:
·
Correct standardisation
·
Characterisation of the action
profiles of the active ingredients and their interaction among another
·
Total
extract vs. active ingredients
·
Dosing
regimens (standardised vs. individual) and therapeutic range
·
Effects
of the route of application on the therapeutic range
·
Analysis
of side effects in respect of action and efficacy
·
Nature
and incidence of adverse effects (anaphylactic reactions?)
·
The
effects of mistletoe therapy on metastatic spread
·
Indications
for epithelial tumours and haematological malignant diseases (e.g. lymphomas)
·
Which
objective criteria exist for demonstrating efficacy?
·
Do
the biological reactions observed during mistletoe therapy allow any
conclusions to be drawn concerning tumour defence?
In order to
create a common basis for discussion, summary papers are planned in the
following fields and on the following subjects:
·
Botany
·
Pharmacy
·
Immunology
and cytotoxicity, preclinical features
·
Clinical
effects and side effects
·
Efficacy
evaluation
Registration fees
The mistletoe
symposium is sponsored by the organisers. Therefore in the past no fees were
raised for participating the symposium. The book of abstracts are also free of
charge. Accomodation and meals have to be arranged by the participants (see
registration).
Languages
The official languages
at the symposium is German. But it is possible to give presentations in
English.
Publication
of a book
All the papers and significant
contributions to the discussions are to
be published as quickly as possible after the symposium. Thus all speakers
are requested to provide manuscripts (The manuscripts should meet our instructions
for authors). - ready for printing - of the contributions they have proposed.
